So you’re creating a website with using UX design checklist. Or maybe you’re hiring someone to do it, but you want to understand what it all means.
UX Design is a form of marketing and sales, but with more technical aspects of coding and designing a website. This is often used interchangeably with UI design, which is more visual than technical.

UI Design – User Interface Design, an approach focused more on graphic design and interactive responses.
A UX design checklist can be used for any digital product and how it interacts with consumers, but most commonly you will hear it in reference to web design.
If your website is undergoing UX structuring, follow this checklist to ensure maximum optimization.
- Establish Buyer Personas
Start by imagining you are the target audience and take yourself through the journey of your website. First, who are you? Someone looking for educational blog content? Or someone looking to make a purchase? What age group and socio economic status are you looking to capture. All of this should be reflected in your UX Design checklist.
2. Loading Speed
The next impression your website will have is how long it takes to load. Reducing your site’s loading speed from eight to two seconds can boost your conversion rate by 74%, as many visitors will leave if it takes too long. This can be optimized by removing too complicated video content or other slow to load pieces.
3. The Message
Your visitor is on the front page. Is it clear what your messaging is? Brand guidelines should include language that reflects the brand personality across all channels, as well as the colors. You should stick to four primary colors on the website, which should all match the product or service being sold.
What kind of journey should your website funnel visitors to take? Planning out your content hub with wireframing and creating all the content in a content inventory beforehand can be beneficial to visualizing the site map.
5. The Device
This ties into buyer personas. Is your device mobile optimized as much as it is for desktop or tablet? Is your layout responsive? Aside from the layout, buttons should be proper size to click and mobile sites often perform better with less text due to the smaller screen size.
6. Encourage Interaction
There are many ways to do this. One is with a contact us approach to encourage feedback and brand relationships. You can also have interactive buttons also known as microinteractions. Whatever you add, though, don’t let these moving graphics distract from the ultimate call to action.
7. Lead With Analytics
Analytics tools can be used in many different forms. One example is A/B testing to see which page layout has better conversion. Others are analytics tools on the backend that can measure KPIs, key performance indicators, that might flag where visitors are losing interest or getting confused.
